From Woody Wilson:
Dear JAMN Jazzers:
Welcome to our JAMN Jazz VIP e-mailing list! This is our first mailing to the growing faithful. Through these weekly e-mails you will receive updates on future bookings along with reminders for our upcoming Monday event at Monti’s Backdoor. You can be removed from the list at any time by just letting us know.
Our first event on June 9th at Monti’s Backdoor was a resounding success. Margo Reed and the Tony Vacca Quartet played to a near capacity room and couldn’t have been in better form. The cool music, the great buffet, $2 drinks and a wildly enthusiastic audience made for a memorable jazz happening on Mill Avenue. Our thanks to Monti’s for making it all possible. We all hope it’s the first of many more shows to come.
Once a month, JAMN will try to showcase emerging jazz artists from around the Valley. If you want to know who’s coming up on the local jazz scene, these emerging artist shows will be just the ticket. Our next show on Monday, July 16th, will feature the Todd Martino Group from ASU. Jazz begins at 5:30 p.m. Also, the second set will be a jam session, which will include the sax offerings of our very own JAMN Stu Siefer. You can’t miss this one!
Here’s some background information on these fine, young ASU musicians.
Todd Martino, Piano:
Todd has been playing piano all his life but has been especially
focused on Jazz since high school. Born in Erie, PA, he has become
increasingly spoiled by warm weather since moving to Tempe two years
ago. Currently a junior at ASU pursuing a degree in Electrical
Engineering, he continues to search for a way to combine his artistic
and scientific interests.
Erik Teichmann, Drums:
Erik Teichmann, 25, has been playing drums since the age of fourteen.
He is a native of Phoenix Arizona and has resided in the valley for most
of his life. He currently is starting his fourth year at Arizona State
University working towards a degree in Jazz Performance on drum set.
Jeff Moran, Bass:
A native of Denver, Colorado, Jeff Moran has been playing the bass
since the 6th grade. He was trained classically and played as the
principal bassist in the Colorado Youth Symphony Orchestra for 5
years. Simultaneously, he developed a keen interest in mathematics
and the sciences that eventually took him to the Georgia Institute of
Technology to study engineering. However, after 3 semesters at
Georgia Tech, he discovered jazz music and decided to transfer to
Arizona State to study jazz and engineering in tandem. Since then he
has never looked back.
Seth Gory, Trombone:
Seth Gory has lived here in Tempe, Arizona all 21 years of his life.
His musical career began when he was only four years old, playing the
violin. Since then he has experimented with a variety of instruments
and styles; an undertaking which has afforded him many valuable
playing opportunities around the valley. Seth realized his love for
jazz music in high school and has been perfecting his craft ever
since. He is currently pursuing a degree in jazz performance at ASU.
