Mysterious Tovrea Castle being prepped for tours | eastvalleytribune.com

Tovrea Castle, a landmark to those passing on the Red Mountain Freeway stretch of Loop 202 near Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, was constructed between 1928 and 1930 by Alessio Carraro, an Italian immigrant who made his fortune in sheet metal before moving here from San Francisco.

This is very exciting; when I was a kid (and could still smell the Bravo Sierra wafting from the cattle pens when my parents drove out Van Buren) I always thought the Tovrea Castle was haunted–it just had the look. I really look forward to this opening. Perhaps we can organize a group tour that would take in the Pueblo Grande Ruins, lunch at Monti’s and then the Tovrea Castle, for starters.
