Several Tempe streets will be closed or restricted for the Veterans Day Parade

Tempe, Ariz – Several downtown Tempe streets will be closed or restricted for the Veterans Day Parade Nov. 11. All streets will be closed or restricted from 9:45 a.m. until parade finishes.

Mill Avenue/Apache Boulevard will be closed between 13th Street and Washington Street/Curry Road.
Rio Salado Parkway will be closed eastbound between Ash Avenue and Packard Drive.
Turns will be restricted from University Drive onto Mill Avenue. The following streets will be closed eastbound and westbound at Mill Avenue
o 11 Street/Gammage Parkway
o 10th Street
o 9th Street
o 7th Street
o 6th Street
o 5th Street
o 4th Street
o 3rd Street
o 2nd Street

Bus detours will begin at 8 a.m. Occasional breaks during the parade will occur to permit traffic on University Dr. to cross at Mill Ave. under direction of Tempe Police Department.

The following routes will be detoured or delayed: Earth, Jupiter, Mercury and Venus, 30, 40, 62, 65, 66, and 92.

Earth Back Regular route to College Ave. and Curry Rd.; east on Curry Rd. to Scottsdale/Rural Rd; south on Scottsdale/Rural Rd. to University Dr.; west on University Dr. to College Ave; north on College Ave. to Tempe Transportation Center to resume regular route.

Earth Forward Regular route to Tempe Transportation Center; ; from layover pull through west entrance to Tempe Transportation Center and head southeast on Veterans Way to University Dr; east on University Dr. to Rural Rd/ Scottsdale Rd; north on Rural/Scottsdale Rd. to Curry Rd.; west on Curry Rd. to College Ave; north on College Ave. to resume regular route.

Jupiter Back Regular to Tempe Transportation Center; from layover pull through west entrance to Tempe Transportation Center and head southeast on Veterans Way; continue south on McAllister Ave. to Apache Blvd.; west on Apache Blvd. to College Ave.; south on College Ave. to resume regular route.

1930s Aerial Photos of Monti’s & Mill Avenue

A  reply to my newsletter that came with links to some great historic photos:

Michael,

Best wishes for an early recover from your surgery. I suppose that the
pun-like anatomical references in your missive such as “Afoot” and
“peg-leg” were either on purpose or subconsciously caused by the pain
medication for your knee. Either way, I got a “kick” out of it and enjoy
your “knee”d to tell local “leg”ends as re”toed” by others or viewed
from a different “ankle”. I hope that you “heel” real soon.

In case you have not seen it. The County obtained 1930 airborne images
of the canal system from the Smithsonian and, with the public’s help,
matched them to their geographic locations. Your building is easily
recognizable in the 2 images which I have linked below.

Several Tempe streets closed for the ASU vs. Oregon State football game

Tempe, Ariz – Several downtown Tempe streets will be closed or restricted Oct. 3 for the ASU vs. Oregon State football game. Kick off time is to be announced.

The following streets will be closed two hours prior to kick off until the game starts:
• Veterans Way will be closed in both directions between 6th Street and College Avenue.
• Westbound Rio Salado Parkway will be closed at McClintock Drive.

The following streets will be closed or restricted two hours prior to kick off until one hour after game ends:
• Eastbound Rio Salado Parkway will be closed between Ash and Mill avenues.
• 5th Street will be closed in both directions between Farmer Avenue and Priest Drive. Local traffic will be permitted.
• Ash and Maple avenues will be closed in both directions at University Drive. Local traffic will be permitted.
• 10th Street will be closed in both directions at Mill Avenue. Local traffic will be permitted.
• Motorists heading eastbound on University Drive will be required to turn southbound onto Mill Avenue.
• Right hand turns will be prohibited from westbound University Drive to northbound Mill Avenue.
• Left hand turns will be prohibited from southbound Mill Avenue to eastbound University Drive.
• Left hand turns will be prohibited from Mill Avenue to 7th, 6th, 5th, 4th and 3rd streets and Rio Salado Parkway.
• Left hand turns will not be permitted from eastbound 7th and 5th streets and Rio Salado Parkway onto Mill Avenue.

The following streets will be closed from the start of the third quarter until one hour after game ends
• Southbound Scottsdale Road/Rural Road will be closed between Curry Road and Rio Salado Parkway.
• Eastbound Gilbert Drive will be closed between Scottsdale Road and College Avenue.
• Westbound Rio Salado Parkway will be closed between Karsten Golf Course and McClintock Drive.
• Westbound University Drive will be closed between Rural Road and McClintock Drive.
• Northbound Rural Road will be closed between Rio Salado Parkway and University Drive.
• 5th Street, 6th Street, and 7th Street will be closed between Forest Avenue and College Avenue.
• College Avenue will be closed between 6th Street and Veterans Way/5th Street.
• Southbound McAllister Drive will be closed between University Dr. and Terrace Road.
• Eastbound SR202 off-ramp onto Scottsdale Road will be closed.
• Westbound SR202 off-ramp onto Scottsdale Road will be closed.

Expanded Orbit Service:
The city of Tempe transit program, Tempe in Motion, will make it easy for residents to get to all Arizona State University home football games. Residents who live along any of the Orbit routes (Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars and Jupiter) are encouraged to use the service. Hours of operation on Orbit will be extended until midnight on game days.

Bus Detours:
The following bus detours will be in effect during all ASU home football games. Detours will begin during the 3rd quarter and last until approximately one hour after the game ends. All buses traveling in downtown Tempe may experience delays due to traffic.

30 Westbound: Regular route west on University Dr. to McClintock Dr.; south on McClintock Dr. to Apache Blvd.; west on Apache Blvd. to Rural Rd.; north on Rural Rd. to University Dr.; west on University Dr.; resume regular route.

72 Northbound: Regular route to Tempe Transportation Center (TTC).; From the TTC west on 5th St. to Mill Ave.; north on Mill Ave. to Curry Rd.; east on Curry Rd. to Scottsdale Rd.; north on Scottsdale Rd. to resume regular route.

72 Southbound: Regular route south on Scottsdale Rd. to Curry Rd.; west on Curry Rd. to Mill Ave.; south on Mill Ave. to 5th St.; east 5th St. to the east entrance of the Tempe Transportation Center to resume regular route.

76 Northbound – Regular route from the Tempe Transportation Center to 5th St.; west on 5th St. to Mill Ave.; North on Mill Ave. to Curry Rd.; east on Curry Rd. to Miller Rd.; north on Miller Rd to resume regular route.

76 Southbound – Regular route on Miller Rd. to Curry Rd.; west on Curry Rd. to Mill Ave.; south on Mill Ave. to 5th St.; east on 5th St to Tempe Transportation Center to resume regular route.

Earth Forward: Regular route south on McClintock Dr. to University Dr.; continue south on McClintock Dr. to 8th St.; west on 8th St. to Dorsey Ln.; south on Dorsey Ln. to Lemon St.; west on Lemon St. to Rural Rd.; north on Rural Rd. to University Dr.; west on University Dr. to resume regular route.
